In case you are pretending to not know what was a fighter plane, it's one that was designed for air combat or air-ground attack roles. In the USA these were usually designated with a "P" for Pursuit (i.e. P-40, P-38, P-51) or an "F" for fighetr (i.e. F-6, F-4U, etc). or an "A" for attack (A-4, A-1E, etc). IN general, if the plane was designed PRIMARILY as a fighter/attack aircraft and had mounted guns it will qualify for the bonus money. Trainers such as the "AT" and "PT" series (Advanced Trainer and Primary Trainer, respectively) and ANY type of recon aircraft are NOT fighter planes and will NOT qualify for the bonus money.

This event was BY FAR the BIGGEST and BEST Scale Combat Meet of the year in the entire United States - By a factor of 200% to 400%! We had MORE pilots flying MORE matches winning MORE prizes than ANY OTHER EVENT! The 1998 Event will be EVEN BIGGER AND BETTER!!!! Mark your calendars for ...

Billings, Montana JULY 11-12, 1998

The above is not hype - it's the absolute truth. CD Doug Haake and the Billings Flying Mustangs worked thousands of man-hours to make sure that the Western National Championships would be THE BEST Scale RC Combat meet in the country in 1997. Now we are working on the 1998 event, and believe me we will make this one even better!
Here are some of the highlights of the preliminary planning for 1998:
  • MORE PRIZES - more cash than last year GUARANTEED!
  • More entries - we raised the limit to 50 pilots. And it's ALREADY FULL - cut-off reached on January 30!!! (And several more pilots on stand-by).
  • Frequency Allocation - each pilot is allowed only ONE channel. That means NO CHANCE of accidental shoot-downs and an optimum matrix for the matches.
  • Revised aircraft rules - less deviation from the AMA rules, except the engine limit for any plane will remain the same as in 1997.
  • Revised scoring - bigger penalty for sitting out a round(s).
  • Stay tuned for more information - and get busy building!
