Dear Mr. Hawkinson:

We have read some of the recent K-FACTOR articles discussing our paint products. All the articles seem supportive of the trouble K&B has had with the government regulation on Super Poxy. But, we would like the opportunity to clarify some of the questions raised. We are hoping you will publish the comments listed below to the help clarify these issues. The new K&B management is working to improve the quality and delivery of all our engines, we are also introducing a new .61 with some innovative features. Later in the year, will introduce a NEW line of performance engine. In an effort to continue our changes, we would like the information published about our products be as accurate as possible. While we keep our customer service department up to date on many of our products, they don't always have the detail that is required for the modelers of the caliber of your readership. We are hoping the members of your organization would feel free to contact myself or Don Weitz for questions of this type. We really want to keep the modeling public informed and looking at our products.

K&B manufacturing would like to clarify the status of Super Poxy . We regret the loss of this very popular paint product. But, the EPA has determined some of the components of the current formula of Super Poxy are too "volatile". Under this ruling the company that mixes our paint would be forced to construct a completely new facility to continue to produce Super Poxy. They have determined the cost to build this to conform to the regulation is far too expensive and they simple will not produce the product any longer. However, the catalyst and thinner is not included in this ruling (yet), so we will continue to ship catalyst and thinner as long as possible.

We also still have some orange and blue Super Poxy, still in stock while supplies last. This along with the catalysis and thinner are available from your local hobby shop (they should contact their distributor). With regards to locating more product, we have been referring any one that asks, to any hobby shop we know that has stock. But these stocks appear to be gone now also.

For the past year, K&B has been working with our chemists to develop a new paint that can be produced under the current regulations. Although, this effort has confirmed what many have know for a long time, Super Poxy was an outstanding product, for its price. We have finally found a suitable replacement. After exhaustive testing we are completing the finial tests of the most recent formula. From all the reports so far, our new ULTRA POXY, covers, flows and glosses as good or better than the old formula. In fact many have said "they like it better and it's tougher", some report "the gloss is so good, they don't need a clear coat any more". Also, since our catalysis is available, we do not recommend using other brands of catalyst with our products, we can not be sure of the results. We certainly hope, as has been suggested, you don't go out and find a replacement until you've tried the new ULTRA POXY. We think it will certainly match the performance of Super Poxy.. We are not ready to officially announce a ship date or price as of this writing, but we plan to have it ready by August. Thank you

K&B Manufacturing
Sincerely, Paul Renna
