The 1st CAOCC was organised by the Australian Pattern Association. The hardworking committee was directed by perennial CD, Henry Hutchinson. Having organised the 1991 World Championships (at the same site) and countless Australian/ Kraft Masters before and after that, the APA was well-prepared to run another excellent contest and they did not disappoint.
Participating in this inaugural event were teams from Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, fielding a total of 23 competitors. Each team was permitted to nominate 3 team members, whose results would determine team placings, as well as two individuals. All of us enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Wangaratta Motor Inn. The Motor Inn is a cosy place familiar to many of us who have participated in the Australian Masters in the years past.
The judges for the event were Brian Green (Australia), Mike Johnston (New Zealand) and Tsugutaka Yoshioka (Japan). Yes, it's the same man of Yoshioka model products fame .
Ron Chidgey, Chairman of the CIAM F3A sub-committee, headed the international jury of the CAOCC. He was assisted by Chris Greenwood of Australia and T.S Sthipam from Malaysia. Ron had been working hard. All over Australia, he journeyed, delivering judging seminar after seminar. At Wangaratta, he hosted an excellent judges' clinic which we were fourtunate to attend.
