CREATING A STANDARD FOR NSRCA DISTRICT
CHAMPS.
From NSRCA Pres. Tony Stillman
As published in K-FACTOR
-
- Over the years, I have seen many, many different systems
used by various NSRCA Districts for the selection of a District Champion.
I have also heard many, many complaints about the different programs,
and why they were chosen. After much discussion, I have come to the conclusion
that NSRCA needs to "Officially Approve" two or three District
Championship programs so that the various districts can select the program
that fits them.
-
- This will accomplish several things:
-
- 1. It will standardize the programs so that competitors
will know what to expect.
-
- 2. It will remove pressure on the Dist. VP to "dream
up" a program for his/her district.
-
- 3. It will ensure that the program used will select
a winner based on a year of competition.
-
- After much research and discussion with VP's, I have
included the following three programs for your consideration. Keep in
mind that we will approve these for use by the NSRCA districts, some of
which have memberships that are spread over 1,000 miles! Thus the need
for several programs that will fit all our District needs.
-
- PROGRAM 1:
-
- Each competitor is awarded points based on the order
of finish and number of people beaten in his/her class. A first place
finish get 9 points plus one point for each person you finish above. A
second place finish get 7 points plus one point for each person you finish
above. Third place gets 5 points plus one point for each person you finish
above. Fourth place gets 3 points plus one point for each person you finish
above. Fifth place gets 1 point plus one point for each person you finish
above. Sixth and below just get one point for each person you finish above.
Using this system, everyone gets points, except for last place in each
class.
- Five contests are counted, and the best two contest scores
are DOUBLED. There is NO DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP CONTEST. Only one out
of District contest may be used. Scores from the NATS may be used if it
is held WITHIN the district.
- This system works well if you have contestants that are
spread too far apart to hold a District Championship contest and be fair
to all members. Such is the case for District 8, (which uses this system
now) who has the state of Alaska as part of the district. This would also
work well for District 7, for the same reasons.
-
- PROGRAM 2:
-
- Each competitor uses the same scoring program as in PROGRAM
1.
-
- The best 5 contests are counted. One of these may be
out of district. A District Championship contest is held toward the end
of the season. The scoring used at this contest is the same, except that
the total score is DOUBLED. This score is added to the previous best five
for a total of 6 contest scores. Scores from the NATS may be used only
if the NATS is held within the District. This system works well for Districts
where a Championship Contest is desired.
- BASIC RULES:
-
- 1. Only NSRCA members are eligible for NSRCA District
Awards.
-
- 2. A pilot can participate in the District Champs Program
if they join NSRCA prior to the last AMA sanctioned contest of the year,
if using plan #1. However, the contest MUST be sanctioned in time to be
listed in the Contest Calendar in the back of "Model Aviation Magazine"
and/or make a listing in the Contest Calendar of the "K-Factor".
If using plan #2, the competitor must join NSRCA prior to the start of
the District Championship contest. Under these conditions, points accrued
prior to joining NSRCA may be used toward the District Championships.
However, he/she must provide a computer printout of the contest(s) results
to the designated tabulator for the District.
-
- 3. A tabulator will have to be recruited by the District
VP if he/she does not want the task themselves. It will be the responsibility
of each pilot to ensure that the Contest Director forwards a copy of the
results to the tabulator.
-
- I would like to see EVERY District have a championship
program. Each member should have to opportunity to compete in a District
Championship Program.
