FINAL NSRCA Updates 4/23/00 - Happy Easter!
I apologize for the way-late publication. As many of you know, I have always done the K-FACTOR with only my wife Ellen to help. This has been a strain even on "easy months," and a near impossible task during the buyers guide. Last year was bad enough that I announced that I wouldn't do a guide issue this year. Others talked me into doing it again. A poor decision, as it turns out! To make a long story shorter, my one and only helper (Ellen) has been completely unavailable to help. Just over 2 months ago her dad went in for a "little checkup" and has been in intensive care (or surgery) for all but a couple days since then. I lost track of how many surgeries. Anyhow, let's just say that Ellen has had other duties to take care of. As of now we are hopeful but the outcome is not at all certain yet.
As the guide was obviously going to be way late, I finally talked to Henderson and the decision was made to add the April issue - making a combined issue that would mail first class to all members. (Non-US members always got the guide first class because bulk doesn't go outside the US). This added yet another week+ to the production time, but at least the issues will get to you in May rather than getting the April issue in May and the Guide issue in late May or June. Pending Press problems the Guide will be printed this week.
The May issue is presently scheduled to go to press mid-May and mail towards the end of May.
Since hiring help is way out of the question (a notable disadvantage of doing all ad production and web work for free and charging far below market rate for the high quality producting and printing) I can't hire my way out of this situation. I'd appreciate it if you would NOT e-mail as that only takes more time, I'll get the issues out as quickly as possible. That's all I can do.
Just so you know, this WILL DEFINITELY be the last issue of the Buyers Guide that I will produce. Absolutely no question about that. Further, given the abuse I keep getting from a very small but very vocal (is vocal the right term for e-mails?) group of disgruntled members AND non-members, I will not be submitting any bid for the job when my contract expires. I'm sure the next editor will do much better.
Thanks to all my many pattern pals, and have a great year 2000 season!!

If you were hoping to wait until the price on YS 4-strokes dropped, you are not going to be happy to hear that they have gone up - about $50 at most vendors polled.

Updates 12/05/99
It appears that the entire Futaba Corp. of America is set to shut down now that the radio import rights belong to Hobbico. We're told that Steve Helms will continue as an employee of Futaba (Japan) and work with promotions and sponsorship items.

The YS engine distribution will be taken over by Dave Shadel and Rich Verano. They will be the primary distributor AND - lucky for YS users - the repair center. (Lucky as in it could have gone to Great Planes/Hobby Services!) Most of the current big YS engine dealers will reportedly continue as before, including Central Hobbies and Radio South.

Your webmaster has finally succeeded in opening a brand new RC Helicopter store. HeliProz Inc. features extremely competitive pricing and secure online ordering.

Tony Stillman wrote that he still has a FEW items left for Team USA supporters. T-shirts $8, Polo Shirts $20 and a few hats at $15. Contact Tony at Radio South.

FUTABA USA has been sold to the Hobbico/Great Planes/Tower conglomerate. They will apparently be the sole distributor for Futaba radios. The Yamada/YS Engine division will reportedly be maintained as a separate business and was not included in the sale.

Gator R/C has finally sent an e-mail address so we started posting some pages on their web site. Check back for more as we get it posted. Their Typhoon 2000 and G-202 are very hot picks!
